How to increase use of technology in the classroom.
Goal: Teachers use more technology in the classroom to support curriculum.
Percieved problem
problem of integrating technology into education
getting the teachers motivated to use the technology
Analyisis:
Teachers are not motivated to acquire new skills.
no economic incentive
No work requirements to use technology in curriculum.
no social incentive
maybe a hint of moral incentive knowing that their students will need to yet
more skilled in technology than they already are to survive in modern work force
Teachers are not familiar with technologies available.
Possible Solutions:
Reverse mentoring
good teachers
willing to risk and acknowledging ignorance
the ego is at risk
good _people_ do this!
Hire smarter people/ more talented people and then lead...
How do you get those to follow if they recognize that you're not as smart
in addition to authority you have to have respect
everyone knows that you don't know every thing
school environment
elementary
the fifth grade story
middle school
high school level
authority questioned?
leading into the unknown
Students and teachers should be researchers and developers...
We're going to explore together...
if students think the teacher doesn't have authority then they will not have a
leg to stand on in the classroom
applicable for all levels of education
motivating the adults
get them out of area of comfort
T/A programs
minimal funding
teacher assistants
question of trust
high school students have little/no repurcusssions for doing wrong
at adult level it's different
Have the students train the teachers!
