Florence and her sister learned languages, history and mathematics.
Florence became a nurse
During the Crimean War, Florence went to Turkey to help the soldiers.
Problems
Hospitals were unsanitary
She thought she could save soldiers if the hospitals were more clean.
Soldiers were dying
Florence knew that many soldiers died in the hospitals from disease.
What she did
Used maths
Florence found a way to use numbers to show her way worked. It is called a polar area diagram.
Changed the way patients were cared for
She helped train nurses in a new way.
Made hospitals cleaner
Florence made rules for keeping everything clean.
